WELCOME

I bought a teapot....... Just a teapot....... An old one, and kind of unusual. I had to find out about the maker's mark, and thus began a wonderful journey! 15 years later, and I now have over 250 ALB teapots. Not to mention a couple of coffee pots, a tankard, milk jugs, sugar bowls, and a plate. Little by little, more people are being enticed by these lovely teapots, and starting collections of their own. This blog was set up so that all ALB lovers could have a place to meet, share photos, ask questions, and in general get to know each other and share their appreciation for these lovely teapots. If you leave a question, please be kind enough to leave an email address, so someone may send you an answer!

So come on in, sit down, have a "cuppa", and enjoy.

Alcock, Lindley and Bloore Collector's Guide

Well, last night, I put pen to paper........ OK, fingers to keyboard...........and started the book. If I keep at a steady pace, I'm thinking it will take a month to six weeks to finish. Once it is complete, it will be available for purchase on the website. There will be a short history of how I got started collecting, which I hope will be informative and entertaining, along with history of the ALB Pottery, how to brew a proper pot of tea, some patent information to help date any ALB teapots with patent numbers, lots and lots of photos and more. I am still open to suggestions of anything collectors would like added, or for submissions from other collectors. Let me hear from you!

I recently aquired an ALB Brown Betty Teapot but what is confusing me, it was still in the box with original paper and the box claims the maker to be Ridgway Potteries, Limited, Stoke-On-Trent. Is there any connection between these two companies or is this a mis-match? Thank you and any help would be great!

Hi. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. No, this is not a mis-match. Your set was made after the company was acquired by Royal Doulton. They continued to produce these teapots, but under the name "Ridgeways". Your set was made between 1974 and 1979.

I bought a large Brown Betty teapot in a charity shop for £1.50. I loved the design of the pot, and the beautiful dark brown shiny glaze. Thought it was a real bargain for a teapot of that size. I noticed when I took off the lid that the edge was red and had a hole in the knob. Under the lid it just says made in England with two crosses. The makers mark on the bottom isn't that visible. It looks like the bottom of an A with a B and made in England. I was curious about how old my teapot was so I looked online to see if I could find one similar. The only design that resembled mine was an ALB Brown Betty. There are no dates but she is redware. I think she might be a factory second.
She has a few lumps and bumps in the glaze. Also a few small chips but nothing major. She's about 27 cm from spout to handle.
I have made tea with it and she pours beautifully.
I'd like to send a few pictures to someone who knows about ALB Brown Betty's. Also to know if mine really is an ALB and maybe tell me how old she is.

I have a teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug similar to the one on the front cover of the collectors guide but the spots are blue. There is damage to the teapot lid, do you think anyone would be interested.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I would be interested, if you still have it.

I have acquired an ALB Brown Betty Teapot. There are some imperfections on the lid. I am confused by the spout. Its opening is pointing down. I can't find one like this. Is there any way to find an age for this teapot? What would be the purpose? Thanks for any information you can give!

I've been trying to email you my postal details so that you can send me a collectors guide. You don't seem to be receiving my messages. Could you check your junk mail?

I look forward to hearing from you,

many thanks.

Conversely, if a couple of friends have a tea, just choose the big fellow of the water nearly rose penghu-glance, it does not force everyone to go not, if so, the guarantee within three months, you will have three friends become two, two become isolated, only a Cheap Ceramic Teapotstoast to invite the moon, the shadow into three peopleAuthentic Purple Clay Teapot
